Título: Romeo and Juliet
Autor: William Shakespeare
Editorial: Oxford University Press. Oxford Playscripts
The book tells the story of two young lovers, Romeo and Julieta, that fall in love in Verona (Italy) in the fifteenth century. They belong to two important families, the Montagues and the Capulets. They are enemies so their love is a problem.
Juliet’s parents want her to marry París, but she loves Romeo. After a party Tybalt kills Mercutio (Romeo’s friend) and Romeo will kill Tybalt, a Capulet, in an argument. So the governor of the city, Prince Escalus, orders that Romeo has to leave Verona.
The lovers want to marry in secret. Father Lawrence will give Julieta a medicine to sleep for two days. By a mistake, when Romeo is come back to marry her, he thinks she is dead and he drinks a poison to die. When Julieta wakes up she wants to die too. The families put the two lovers together in a tomb and they weren’t enemies anymore.
The caracteres are divided on two main groups: The Capulets (Lord Capulet, Lady Capulet, Julite, and Tybalt) and the Montagues (Lord Montague, Lady Montague, Romeo and Benvolio)
Other secondary characters are: Prince Escalus, Paris, the nurse, the servants, the fathers and the shopkeeper.
I like this book for its dramatization but what I like the most is that it is short.
My note is a 4.
I think the plot is amazing because one situation happens after other; everything is a consequence. It can be confusing because there are a lot of characters but I love the story and what It tells about society, rich families, love and culture of the 15th century.
I give them a 4 because sometimes they are a little over the top.
I give it a 5 because it’s an old work very well adapted for children.
